Dismantling is the most material-intensive activity in heavy industry — and the single largest recovery opportunity in it. We treat that opportunity as an engineering discipline, not as a reporting exercise.

Our position

Dismantling is the most material-intensive activity in heavy industry — and the single largest opportunity in it. A retired plant is not waste. It is several thousand tonnes of steel, alloy, copper and aggregate that already exists, already carries its embodied carbon, and needs only to be separated properly to re-enter the economy.

The industry default destroys most of that value in the first hour of handling. Mixed arisings cannot be un-mixed economically; alloy separated downstream is separated at a fraction of its worth; a serviceable pump treated as tonnage is a machine that someone now has to manufacture again.

DDMS Global treats recovery as an engineering discipline with the same rigour we apply to load paths. Reuse candidates are identified at survey, before the commercial structure is even agreed. Grade separation happens at the work front, briefed to crews as a task requirement. Concrete is crushed on site to a certified aggregate where the redevelopment can use it, removing both haulage and imported fill from the equation.

The result is a 94% average diversion rate from landfill, verifiable against weighbridge records rather than asserted in a report — and a materially lower carbon outcome than the demolish-and-replace path, because the lowest-carbon tonne of steel is the tonne that never has to be made again.

How it is achieved

Each one describes something that happens at the work front on a live site — which is the only place a diversion rate is actually created.

340 t

refractory recovered for direct client reuse on one programme

Reuse before recycling

Assets and structural sections with genuine second-life value are identified at survey and preserved through dismantling rather than defaulted into the melt stream. Reuse retains embodied carbon that recycling releases.

average diversion from landfill across all programmes

Segregation at source

Ferrous, non-ferrous, alloy grades, cable and non-recoverable streams are separated at the work front into designated containment. Once mixed, recovery value does not come back at any price.

~190

haulage movements removed on a single clearance project

On-site material loops

Concrete arisings crushed and screened on site to certified graded aggregate for piling mats, haul roads and backfill — eliminating both outbound haulage and imported fill.

100%

of consignments to licence-verified outlets

Verified downstream routing

Material is consigned only to facilities whose permits we have checked and recorded. Chain of custody is documented from work front to receiving gate.

~70%

reduction in hot-work permits on a refinery programme

Emissions in method selection

Cold mechanical cutting over thermal, on-site processing over haulage, electric plant where site power supports it — carbon is treated as a method-selection input, not a reporting output.

42,000 m²

returned redevelopment-ready in a single twelve-week programme

Land returned to use

Remediated, validated and surveyed brownfield land handed back for redevelopment reduces pressure on greenfield sites — the largest environmental benefit our sector delivers.

Material flow

01

Survey & identify

Reuse candidates and grade profile established before dismantling method is fixed.

02

Segregate at source

Streams separated at the work front into designated containment with supervisor verification.

03

Grade & consolidate

Material graded, cut to transport length and staged in segregated dispatch bays.

04

Weigh & document

Every load weighed, ticketed and issued a transfer note naming the receiving facility.

05

Verified routing

Consignment only to facilities whose permits are checked and recorded per movement.

Environmental controls

Thresholds are agreed with the people affected by them — plant operators, neighbouring stakeholders, regulators — rather than imposed by either side, and monitored against agreed limits throughout.

Dust

Atomised suppression matched to particulate size, wheel washing on egress and continuous boundary particulate monitoring against agreed limits.

Noise

Measurement at sensitive receptors, method selection weighted toward lower-noise mechanical processing and working-hour restriction where required.

Vibration

Continuous monitoring where adjacent structures or energised equipment demand it, with defined stop criteria rather than advisory limits.

Water

Bunding, spill containment, runoff collection and treatment before discharge, with sampling records forming part of the close-out pack.
